Random Tuesday Thoughts: American Idol and Easter

randomtuesday

I have seen these Random Tuesday Thoughts posts around the mom and dad blog community. I finally stumbled upon the origin at The Un-Mom. Since pretty much everything that emanates from my mind is random I thought I would join the fun this Tuesday.

  • American Idol is about one step away from becoming their own television network. They already preempt and move around almost every show on Fox. I don't think they interrupt the Sunday schedule, but Simon has been a character on the Simpsons. Nothing is out of their reach. Before long Fox will air Idol every day and Paula Abdul will replace Bill O'Reilly. In case it isn't clear I hate American Idol.

  • One more Idol thought. That show has spawned many competition type shows. Dancing seems to be one of the favorites. Why not have instrument playing competitions. The obvious ones are trumpet or maybe the saxophone judged by Kenny G. I personally would like to see "So You Think You Can Play the Oboe." Who wouldn't want to see band geeks lined around the block to show their talents to some angry oboe loving Brit. Someone get Simon on the phone. I want a producer credit.

  • The Easter egg hunt we were invited to got cancelled due to heavy rains. I don't think it is too big a deal since Braden can't walk or crawl. The lack of a way to move around would limit his egg gathering abilities. Next year when he can walk we will have to enforce a strict no cancellation policy. We can get scuba gear and swim from puddle to puddle if we must. Eggs float anyway don't they?

  • I already miss Mark and Olly: Living with the Machigenga. I think we should trump up some bogus charges and get them kicked out of their countries of residence. Maybe if they lost their home they would be more inclined to live in the jungle forever. After all my entertainment is more important than their normal civilized lives.

  • I found another one of the great things about being a Dad. On a child's first Easter some people still give them candy. After all stuffing candy in plastic eggs is one of the biggest Easter traditions. When your child has no teeth you get the candy.

Halloween rocks like that too!

American Idol is clear evidence of the decline of Western Civilization. I only watch 24 and House on Fox anymore. Other than that the channel, like you said, should change itself to American Idol TV.

I never got into the Idol thing either. Guess I don't get it.

Hey, if you think you get good candy at Easter, wait until Halloween. :)

Didn't you know that on the Easter Egg hunt you'd be the one hunting and gathering for your child. Got out of that one for this year.

American Idol is one waste of time and energy. Fox will soon be known as the reality channel...The Simpson's as a reality show?

My kid has teeth and I still eat his candy. I can't decide if that makes me a good mom or a bad mom.

I am totally with you on Idol. I'm totally over it.

Welcome to RTTs! It's a lot of fun.

(And I'm a fellow engineer...in case you find that mildly interesting.)

I might severely love American Idol. Oops.

I hate Idol too. I feel like a sheep if I watch it.

The Simpsons, however, rock.

yes.. eggs float..and wet candy still tastes good.

:)

Of course the parents get the candy, even after the teeth come in. It's like a surcharge you get to collect for being an awesome mom or dad. It's true. It also applies on Halloween.

Ugh on the American Idol, double ugh if it causes a timing conflict with my DVR and hacks of the final three minutes of Hell's Kitchen.

I always wanted to have my own show where you do sing karaoke. The goal is to match up as close as possible to the original artist. You would not believe how difficult it is to try and match every breath and vocal run precisely.

Yay! Another American Idol hater! I never watch the show, but what I want to know is why it is news the morning after? I mean, really - what happened on the show the night before is covered on the morning news. Who gives a &%#$??

The candy thing will continue throughout most of their childhood, until they are too big for you to grab it away from them. If you're lucky, he won't like things like nuts and coconut so you'll still get all the Snickers and Almond Joys.

LOL! I love your randomness. I can't watch American Idol without cringing a little on the inside, so I totally get it.
Paula Abdul can suck it.

Americna Idol blows. Especially when it causes Fringe to start late thus causing my Tivo to miss the final 10 minutes. But at least I got to watch that blouse-wearing, poodle walker Lambert squawk out some karaoke. Thanks Fox!

Hahhahahah, "So you think you can Oboe". I'd totally watch that. I don't watch anything else anymore, but I'd make an exception for that.

I actually specifically requested that nobody give my son chocolate this year (he's 18 months). I can pad my ass just FINE on my own, thanks.

Glad you found Random Tuesday Thoughts ... these were great!

And, if you are willing to do a little bit of sleight of hand and deception, the candy can still be yours when the teeth come in! At least a large majority of it. You get major candy at Halloween too. Almost the best part of having a kid!

And I quit Idol after the first season. And "my" idol still rocks!

And I think your kid was OK to skip the egg hunt. He probably doesn't even know that he has toes yet so I think the egg thing is beyond him.

thanks for your visit. I appreciate it!

I put AI on the DVR so I can watch when I want and fast forward through all the BS...since there seems to be so much of that... ;)

Like others have already mentioned - you'll be cleaning up on candy goodness come Halloween... ;)

Happy RTT! ;)

Your American Idol comments make me hopeful for an end to that show. Great randomness!

Good luck on the Easter Egg hunt next year. Another 3 year old head butted my 3 year old to get at some eggs, so it's just WONDERFUL. :)

I tagged you with a meme over at my site. I'm sure you'll be MUCH cooler than me. Check it out.

YAY! for your support of your child's easter candy. It's supportive to eat it for the child. It shows them what's in store for next year. :)
Idol? we don't watch it here at all

I am in mourning. There were no Easter eggs, candy to pilfer, or Easter baskets. The girls declared themselves: Too Old. We still buy candy for the Trick-or-Treaters, I'll snatch some from the bowl.
American Idol is a waste of time and brain matter. Simon is playing nasty for money. Another reason not to watch.
Worse is Dancing With the Stars.
