Random Tuesday Thoughts: Computer Brain

randomtuesday
After a very successful foray into Random Tuesday Thoughts last week I am back. Thanks again to the Un-Mom and all her friends.

  • I have now killed 2 laptops in 8 years on the job. I shouldn't say I've killed the 2nd one yet, but it has been diagnosed with a fatal disease. It will die. The only question is when. When you get a laptop it is a clean slate with tons of memory to story seemingly endless amounts of information. After a few years the thing is so full of junk that it is worthless. What if your brain worked like that. I assume there is a limited amount of storage in your brain. It can't be infinite even if it is impossible for us humans to fill. What if you learned so much stuff that simple tasks like walking caused your brain to freeze for five minutes. All the while your head is making whirring and clanging sounds. Finally you black out and reboot before you can go on. It makes me think twice about all that trivia I'm always memorizing. I think we should all binge drink once a month in order to delete some unnecessary files from our cranial hard drive. Think of it as drinking to help you brain function better.

  • Babies are apparently very fond of routines. This weekend Arica, Braden, and I went to visit my family. Braden did not sleep much for the two nights we were there. Arica did not sleep but a few hours each night either. I was lucky to get one good night sleep. As soon as we got home Sunday Braden was his laughing smiling self again. I guess he just prefers to be in a familiar environment. Arica and I on the other hand looked like the living dead.

  • I am gearing up for the softball season. I have not played in about five years. I went to my first practice sunday, and I was pleasantly surprised at my skill retention. My hitting was a little rusty, but I fielded the ball smoothly in the infield and outfield. It seemed like I never took a break. At least it felt that way until Monday morning. Now I may not feel like I had a break, but I think I could have a sprain or a pull.

  • Braden has a shirt that says Mr. Popular. That shirt was proven very true on Sunday morning. In church Braden was so popular that he distracted my Mom and Grandma from the entire service. They played with him throughout the sermon. My Mom's two cousins that sat behind us kept lunging over the seat throughout church to get his attention. The pastor was even distracted enough by Braden's interested stare that he gave Braden a big smile during some readings. Anyone that has the power to distract the entire family on two separate rows and a pastor during church is certainly Mr. Popular.

  • I remember last year when there was talk of a spin off from The Office. Hey NBC! Parks and Recreation is not a spin off! Taking a insignificant character from one show and casting her as a totally different character in another show does not make a spin off. It doesn't matter if the same person created both shows. J.J. Abrams created Lost and the new show Fringe. This guy has a role in both series, and it is still not a spin off. Frasier is a spin off.

It's crazy how popular babies are in church. We have this one couple that looks for us before they take their seat in the pew before services each week. They even admitted to us that they do that. It is absolutely nuts.

Every one loves babies. The people that don't love babies usually don't have children and just don't understand.

Hmmm - I've managed to kill one laptop and send another into terminal illness in just over five years.

You're obviously not trying hard enough.

LOL! Yes babies do enjoy routine. Weird, eh?
Dh has managed to kill 6 laptops in 9 years. Three of them were killed through Iraqi sand and one killed by a 3 year old (purely accidental). The other 2, I have no idea. He's rough on computers.
Thanks for stopping by my blog. Sandwiches rule!

I love to play sports now, but they don't love me back...

My kids are totally into their "familiar surrounding" thing as well. On vacations, it takes them a good 3 nights to get into a sleeping routine~~~which is killer on me and the Hubs!

Thanks for stopping by my blog!

@Mom in High heels and Jan: I want to add that I actually have already killed this laptop twice. It was revived for a fee. For some reason I didn't get a new one from the company. Now I am killing it again. Third times a charm.

Speaking of JJ abrams, I'm stoked about the new star Trek movie!

I agree with your last statement and have a lot more to add, especially since we live in Indiana and chickey doesn't represent very well. My kids would always talk or sing during the prayers at our church when they were babies, it always cracked me up.

Love the random thoughts. If I put all my random thoughts in a blog, I would need some extra bandwidth. Are you a fan of The Office? I LOVE that show! I have almost all of the episodes on my HD DVR. I can't bear to part with them even though they take up a tremendous amount of hard drive space. I wonder if you idea of binge drinking can work on DVRs

That's what Random Tuesday Thoughts are for - to slough off the stuff that's gumming up the mental works ;)

And yes, babies like routines. Babies LOVE routines. They also love to set a routine, and then arbitrarily change it, just to fuck with you.

Being able to reboot a hard drive sounds awesome. I'd totally go for that!

Hate to say it, but the pastor must not have been that interesting if all people wanted to do was look at the baby. Then again, I bet that baby is totally cuter and was grinning away at them all! :-)

I meant to type that being able to reboot our brain like a hard drive sounds awesome. Dang. See? I need that feature, now!

Man, I'm glad I'm not the only person who thought that Parks and Recreation was very Office-ish. We dropped it from our lineup after seeing last week's show, it just wasn't that funny.

We just killed the computer I'm writing on and were charged a hefty bundle to get it fixed. Unfortunately, we lost everything on the hard drive. Back-up discs anyone?
Babies and routine . . . they make it up, we go along for the ride. Your comments about Braden in church made me smile. There's nothing like a smiling baby to make the sermon more interesting! Go Braden!
As for network TV . . . haven't watched it since mine were babies! Thanks for your random thoughts!

I still don't know what to think of "Parks and Recreation". I WANT to like it, but I'm just not sure.

As far as dead computers...don't forget to defrag those bad boys on occasion. Makes 'em much happier in the long run. :)

So far I am not impressed with Parks and Rec. It's like they wrote a Micheal Scott role for the female star.

I'm going to gvie it a couple more episodes though.
