No Mop Tops Please

It seems that there is typically so much dread about a babies first haircut.  Mom's don't want to part with the curls, or more appropriately the mop top.  Often times the babies don't want to part with the hair either.  After all what part of their developing mind is supposed to understand why a strange person with a sharp object is hovering around their head.

At our house we were excited for the first haircut.  We think little boy haircuts are cute.  We tormented Arica's brother and his wife for months about getting their son's hair cut, and we are not hypocrites.  In our defense our nephew was regularly referred to as she by strangers.

Braden didn't have any problem with the hair cut either.  We should have known that he would like the barber sharp because of his social nature. After all it is the only place on earth where it is acceptable for men to gossip.  There is plenty of talk about sports. In my particularly barber shop, decorated with no less than 5 deer heads and one bear, hunting is a very popular topic of conversation as well.  So I look forward to many years of manly talk at the barber shop with my little buddy Braden.

Like Walt Kowalski does in "Gran Torino" I may even take him there one day to teach him how men talk.  I would be a little less vulgar than my hero Mr. Eastwood was in the movie though.

For now I will just be happy to have the memory and of course the pictures of Braden's first haircut.

I love it! We took Will to the barbershop for his first haircut about a month and a half ago. I wanted to take him earlier but my wife was flipping out because "he wouldn't be a baby anymore."

Must be a gender thing because I couldn't wait.

They always look so grown up after a haircut.
I'm glad to see he got a lollipop out of the deal, as is tradition.

I was in the "I hate to lose the curls" camp. Braden does look adorable (and older) with his haircut.

Grayson got his haircut yesterday! My husband was more upset than me. He's sentimental.

Yeah, I'm not ready to let go of the curls, but Ethan has a bit before he has a mullet...I won't let it go THAT far!

These pics are SO cute. It's amazing how much like a little boy he looks. The baby is disappearing so fast!

That last picture of him with the sucker is PRICELESS. I love it! The haircut is very cute too, by the way.

I had to really work on my wife to let me get my son's haircut. His hair was growing so fast that we did it at about eight or nine months and we've taken him two other times since. It is pretty cool to have that experience and, of course, the lollipop reward isn't so bad either.

My 2YO is good when it comes to hair cuts....

As long as he has a sucker in his mouth to distract him.

I challenge the stylist to finish the job within two suckers.

Have you ever seen those barber shops that cater to children and have things like race cars to sit in while they get their haircut?

Love the expression on his face after he was done…

Thank you for sharing,

You're right little boy haircuts are adorable. And Braden is adorable with his new "do".

I've been cutting my older boy's hair with clippers since he was about 6mo and he does pretty well. He's not even scared of the clippers; just curious. :)

Moms definitely aren't enthused about haircuts. The first things my wife said when she saw the result were, "It's so short!" and "All the red's gone!" ;)
