There are so many obvious reasons that fatherhood is great. There are the mushy things like hearing Dada for the first time, or seeing your baby smile when you come home.
Other less sentimental perks are an excuse to play with toys or watch cartoons. I probably spend an hour a day shooting hoops on Braden's 3 foot basketball goal while watching various animated fare.
The added exercise gained from chasing a wayward toddler could be counted as a plus. The huge mountains of candy the kid acquires from loving family and friends is a perk as well.
Some might even think that having a little guy you can train to feed the dogs and mow the yard is pretty cool.
Yesterday I experienced one of my personal favorite benefits of fatherhood. Several times a week Braden gets eggs at lunch. This is usually his first meal of the day so he gets breakfast. Sometimes those eggs come with pancakes. A batch of pancakes contains far too many cakes for the little guy. Have you figured out where I am going yet?
On those days that my lunch time magically coincides with Braden's first meal I get pancakes and eggs for lunch. This glorious lunch is of course courtesy of my awesome wife. It is also helped by the fact that Braden is not yet able to eat more than 2 or 3 pancakes. Breakfast for lunch is one of the perks I hadn't expected, and I am enjoying it greatly.
Of course the unexpected perks come up every day. Like I said way back in this more serious post, "There is no way you can ever understand what it is like (fatherhood) until it happens to you." You never know what kind of joy your kids will bring into your life.
When that joy manifests itself as a scrumptious breakfast, I make sure to bring my appetite.

mmmm... pancakes... When I started reading this I was a little worried that you were into soggy corn flakes or chewed-on toast crusts. But these kinds of leftovers! These I can get behind.
I have been wanting to pop on by for a long time now, since you are one of favorite daddy bloggers... and I do pop by, but just before I am about to comment, I hear screaming or a loud crash come from the next room and off I go.
Quiet time right now, the 2nd best time of the day, the first being bedtime :)
I had a great mommy moment last night when my little Sam (our special needs boy) said the family prayer all on his own! We do this every night, put our Army daddy on the speaker phone and say a little prayer for us all. Last night Sam did it on his own. Let's just say he is VERY thankful "for this day" because it was all he could remember and said it about 10 times before a resounding "AMEN!" But I was moved to tears and thought, "Man, I must be doing something RIGHT!"
I love parenthood!
You could say, though, that the copious amounts of candy these little guys bring home negates the exercise gained from chasing them! :)
Breakfast for lunch is yummy! So is breakfast for dinner, snack time, late night feasts . . . What a perk Braden is providing! I miss those. My waistline, not so much :)
Breakfast for lunch. I like the sound of that, should be a tagline for a restaurant.
we love having breakfast for dinner. It's one of my favorite things. Of course, we usually only do that when hubs is gone (he's kind of a party pooper when it comes to that)
I agree with you that being a dad have alot of joy and perks but with 3 kids I do not get many if any pancakes at all. Shaun could eat 5 or 6 himself. LOL. He is an animal. That is ok because I am more of an egg guy anyway.
Have a great weekend.
Great Site! I am a new dad to a 6 week old boy!

Just wait.... you will soon be able to show him things that only dads can show... How to aim at a cherrio in the toilet (and put the seat down after). How to not tease girls (even though you want too) and be a gentleman. How to be a good sport (even though the ump is totally wrong!) And many many more things only dads can do.
How lucky:)

Oooh, just wait until Braden adds bacon to the morning menu.
i love breakfast. i could eat it 3 times a day
I'm with WeaselMomma, my son likes bacon, but doesn't eat more than a slice, so I get the leftovers
Smart man. Maybe Braden will start to like hash browns too!
